from the rooftops

Nothing quite takes my breath away like the New York City skyline. It is one of those views that I could never ever get tired of. Like being near the Eiffel Tower at dusk, or watching the sunset over Santorini, or seeing a brand new pair of Louboutins (before their glorious red sole starts to wear off!). Only better. And to me, an amazing print dress holds the same appeal. This season I am having a love affair with scarf prints, and I think there is nothing more fabulous than a scarf print dress. A nod to the amazing Versace catwalks of SS 12, anything scarf printed is very on trend right now. I just couldn't walk past this amazing BCBG Max Azria maxi with its gorgeous front pleat detail and sweeping floor length skirt. And while I think it is perfectly glamorous for these soaring New York temperatures (even hotter from the rooftops!), Im willing to say I will probably attempt it back home with some sort of black fur to keep out the cold. How fabulous! So now I ask, what takes your breathe away? x K

memorial day weekend

It's Memorial Day Weekend here in NYC, and while the locals are either at their summer houses in the Hampton's (hello 85 degrees) or brunching in the midst of what seems like a million tourists, I am content to wander and explore the neighbourhood I will call home for the next month or so. Literally down the street from some of my favourite stores like Rag and Bone, Haute Hippie and Vince (not to mention Whole Foods!) I couldn't have picked a more amazing spot to be. I am especially loving the amazing wall art, the gorgeous brick facades with their too cute fire escapes, the fact that there is literally a bar (and Starbucks!) on every corner, and that the best way to keep cool is the never ending criss crossing into the shadows of the tree lined streets. And while the American's say that this weekend is the official start to summer, and therefore your summer wardrobe, I thought nothing says long weekend more than a white summer dress. Add cute flats, an oversized bag and an impromptu 45 minute subway ride to Brooklyn to take part in some memorial day celebrations, and I really am living the dream. Thanks NYC x K

all that shimmers

I love everything that shimmers. From metallic shoes (these are on my NY dream list) and sparkley clutches that go with any outfit (this one is hello amazing), to amazing beaded flapper dresses that never go out of style (if only I could afford this Gucci). And with embellishment all over the latest A/W 13 catwalks, glitz and glamour is set to continue into the new season. So for an easy spin on the trend, I am loving luxurious fabrics that shimmer gloriously in the rare autumn sunshine. This nude glitter dress, although simplistic in shape, is made from fabulous fabric makes me feel like a million dollars. Sparkley enough for day, glamourous enough for night. And while teamed back with black is perfect for the cooler months, a nude heel will be equally fabulous come spring. I know every girl loves a bit of frosting, so try it. x K

owning your style

Style is a personal choice. And in the fickle world of fashion, there is no wrong or right. With trends slowing down world wide and now spanning across several seasons (gone are the days where every six weeks a new trend was dropped into store!!!) I am a massive believer in trying everything (life is too short not to, right!?). So consequently my wardrobe is a mix of on trend pieces from the high street, classic investment buys, and wear forever and a day vintage. To me, this is the perfect mix. But really it's about works for you! And the best thing about fashion is that inspiration comes from everywhere. (Think street style, blogs, vintage stores, episodes of Mad Men!) Today I was inspired on my morning coffee run (and in a few days time, I'll be bringing you inspiration from the Big Apple!!) With all my talk of neon, how can you not love the beaded knit that my girlfriend is wearing? Neon mixed with amazing nude makes the perfect statement. (Who says a coffee run can't be stylish?!) Yep fashion is truly is fabulous x K

nyc essentials

When my husband announced he wanted to buy me a traditional gift for our second wedding anniversary, who was I to complain? Especially when that gift was cotton. Now if you continue to read my blog (and I hope that you do!) you will soon learn I'm not the type of girl who would think cotton means clothes, or socks or sheets. No no. Boring! And not me! (Yes yes you need sheets, but from your husband? I think not!) So think how delighted I was when a pair of Chanel flat espadrilles made there way into my hot little hands. Not only are they comfy, stylish and oh so fabulous, they will be perfect for pounding the NYC pavement. With less than one week til we set off (I couldn't be more excited if i tried!!!) here's a look at some of the other fabulous things I am putting into my suitcase. (Think go with everything pieces - metallic flats, a statement necklace, dress up or down denim shorts). Who says you can't travel in style? Definately not me! x K

mint obsession

I'm having a mint moment. One where I want to paint my walls mint, make mint infused salads and wear mint, preferably tonally color blocked and head to toe. And while I promise you I will attempt all three of these while I am in New York (potentially paint my nails, not the walls of our apartment!) I am completely aware how hard this color can be for the Australian winter. So I was delighted to find this boucle jacket in Zara while I was in London recently. A fabulous icy mint green, with a cool zip front and raw edge trim, it is perfect for wearing now with leather or denim (and will be equally amazing come summer over a crisp white dress). Fabulous? I think so! x K

block out

Block heels are having a massive moment. And because I completely struggle to walk in a) massive high heels and b) any heel that doesn't represent a balancing platform the size of a tree trunk, I am in shoe heaven. Loving the wear with everything nude hue of these (my latest purchase, thanks Zara!), and the perspex heel adds extra wow. They are like candy for my feet x K

But I also love these color blocked Christian Louboutins if you dare, these amazing perspex heels from Stella (sigh!), or these ever more affordable (yet still amazing) metallic heels from Topshop. You can't go wrong!

animal instinct

A concept my husband absolutely hates. Animal print. I don't know why, he just despises it. However, seeing as printed denim is soooo hot right now I couldn't think of a better way to try it out than in a subtle animal print. (Because let's face it, pastel floral denim just isn't flattering for all!) Ofcourse I love animal prints so much that it just seemed completely normal to mix animal print pants WITH an over the top amazing animal faux fur coat. I mean it is all about print mixing right now, so why not? Add Chanel cat's eyes and I really couldn't try and unleash my inner feline anymore. Perfect for these cold autumn days. Sorry hubby x K

color pop

When I was in London a few days ago I wrote about adding a touch of neon to your outfit. Arriving here in Los Angeles has confirmed that neon is completely necessary in my life (and yours!) right now. So 80's be damned (note fluro leg warmers are NOT a fashion trend) it's time to get into some color. While it seems the US has gone perhaps a little color crazy compared to the pastel hues of the UK, I'm completely loving the different ways you can make neon work in your wardrobe. Whether you are tempted to rock neon from head to toe, or simply work a pop of color into your outfit as a trim, here's some inspiration fresh from LA to help. See you back in Melbourne x K

california dreams

I have to admit it's not hard to work when it is 28 degrees. Shopping in the sunshine, what's not to love? Los Angeles has so far been the perfect mix of summer weather, Californian inspiration and a more chilled out vibe as I round up the trip. My go-to shopping outfit can only be described as stylish comfort. I'm loving these amazingly comfy cute ballet flats (I am totally crushing on everything metallic right now), and mixed back with a Prada influenced retro skirt (could I love the tropical scenery of this print anymore?) I feel instantly glam. A simple white tank and vintage bag are the perfect way to round out the outfit. Yep, I am all about Californication x K

cheerio

Travelling is always interesting. New food, new people, new fashion. You never know exactly what you will see, or what will inspire you. And while I have been crazed working in London for the past few (rainy) days (cheers London), it's finally time to move on to the glorious US of A. Specifically California. And aside from the 5am wake up call tomorrow, to me that means warmer weather, girls in cut offs and maxi dresses (summer inspiration at it's best!), and consuming copious amounts of fish tacos (and guacamole, which i swear is a food group!). So here's my good bye to London, and a big fat hello to LA. May you bring sunshine and summer fashion to my life x K

Love this business man, skateboarding around the airport on
the back of his briefcase. Where can i get one of those?
Breakfast at the airport, avocado and hummus are my diet staples!

neon lights

The sugary tones of London have me inspired. For pastels, yes, but more for how I can take a gorgeous pastel dress and turn it into something a little unexpected. So what better way to break up a soft hue than to add a loud, neon pink trim. With so many neon accessories out there right now, like this Marc by Marc Jacobs bag and this Timex watch, its easy to add a touch of neon to your life. It's the perfect balance between too sweet and too sour. And because I'm just too old to rock head to toe neon (aren't I?!) it's the perfect way to update your look for right now. Try it x K

sundae dreams

For my 21st birthday, I had a kiddy party. Think fairy floss and snow cones, and all things girly and fun. (Shall I also mention that for my wedding I wanted a Mr. Whippy Van, but my husband deemed that ridiculous!) So needless to say I am a fan of all things sugary and sweet. And that's exactly how London is making me feel right now. Think retro style quirky prints (hello Prada car print) and sugary pastels so tempting they make you want to eat candy all day long! (Nothing like a sugar high when your shopping!) Mix and match, or color block your favourite hue, there's no wrong color in the palette. Here's some of my favourite sundae moments x K

leather out

There is something funny about coming to London to work on Australian SS12, and find it raining. And cold. Although I guess it is London, so what can I expect! Apparently it's been raining for the past month, and while I love to rug up and enjoy the London winters (hello cosy uggs on my feet and yummy mulled wine!), I was really hoping for some sunshine. Puddles aside, its been the perfect weather to team my wear with anything leather leggings with this seasons coolest (or should that be hottest!?) new trends. While I have always been a leather jacket girl, I'm really loving anything leather right now. I especially have a massive crush on this All Saints jacket in gorgeous metallic, but would also love to try this Oasis leather skirt in too cute pastels. What a perfect way to bring leather to your summer wardrobe! x K
